Initiative taken for establishing of ZRS. Since 2001 this date is celebrated as the holiday of Railways of the Republic of Srpska and company’s “Slava”, celebration of patron St. Vasilije Ostroski, instead of September 15, former Yugoslav Railways’ holiday.

The Government of Serbian Republic Bosnia and Herzegovina reached the decision on establishment of Railways of the Republic of Srpska under title “Serbian Railways oh Bosnia and Herzegovina”

10.06.1992

ZBH introduced as the member of the UIC, becoming formally the successor of railways of former ZTP Sarajevo.

1996-1997

Series of meetings held between OHR-SFOR-UIC-ZBH-ZRS regarding reestablishing transportation system and defining the legal status of railways in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

ZRS applied for membership at the UIC

07.02.1998

The Memorandum and the Agreement ratified between the entity Governments (Bicakcic-Dodik) in Sarajevo, regarding establishment of interentity and international traffic between ZRS-ZFBH and other railways, along with certification of the OHR.

26.02.1998

First interentity traffic established on route Banovici – Sarajevo – Ploce; 30 wagons 1384 t; first international press conference held with assistance of the SFOR and OHR

10.03.1998

Paris declaration – defining railway sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as enabling, based on the legal interpretation, access of the companies to the UIC and other organizations, on condition to split the debts, rolling stock and traction units

16.06.1998

187th session of Executive Board of the UIC in Brussels reached the decision to admit provisionally ZRS as its member, which needed to be certified by the General Assembly of UIC

27.10.1998

General Assembly of UIC in Berlin accepted the proposal of Executive Board of UIC and admitted ZRS as the member of UIC. The ZRS had to accept the division of debts, rolling stock and traction units, and change the company’s prefix from JODP to JOP; also it was determined that entities cannot represent the country.

ZRS become member of RIV, RIC FTE and obtain its code 0044

18.05.2000

ZRS become member of CIT, based on the request submitted on March 10, 1997 and renewed on May 18, 1999, along with several meetings held with CIT in the beginning of 2000 and meeting in Sarajevo between: CIT-OHR-ZRS-ZFBH-Entity Ministries on April 24, 2004. ZFBH opposed the admittance, claiming it to be division of Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
